Our First Dog

I've mentioned Rajah in this blog previously. In fact, he's not actually our dog, but in so many ways, he is. He's the first dog we ever took care of. He's the reason we fell in love with dogs. He's the reason we have two golden retrivers of our own. And he's the reason I can't help the tears in my eyes...

I'm sorry to say that Rajah passed away earlier today. He had been fighting bone cancer for some time now and the pain in his hip was so bad that he couldn't even get up to greet the people he loves so much. We were able to see him a couple of times this week. This morning the family had to make such a tough decision, but it was for the best.

I won't go on since there's really nothing I can say to ease the pain of losing him.

We love you Rajah. We'll always remember you. We'll always miss you.

BTW...that scan is the card that we got when we visited Rajah for his birthday last July. Granted, one of Rajah's family made them and gave them to everyone who had visited Rajah that day, but I'm sure Rajah would have done the same.

Rajah is the reason our family is in love with dogs, too. My mom, particularly, was DEATHLY afraid of any non-human mammal. Thanks to Rajah's loveable nature, she not only learned to appreciate dogs, but we have now owned two since then, and she is CRAZY about them. In fact, Rajah and other dogs have made me realize that I have love for animals that I never even knew was within me. Rajah, you will be missed!!!

Rajah was a special dog who will be remembered always! And i'm sure for those of us who knew Rajah, he was more of a person than a dog. Whever he is, it's a relieve to know that he's out of his pain. We miss you Rajah!

Rajah was the best kind of dog -- lovable, playful and obedient. After spending just a few minutes with him, you'd realize that it is dogs like him that deserve the title "man's best friend."
